Indy Cars of The 1940s
Introduction by Karl Ludvigsen
Another Ludvigsen Series
book on Indianapolis. Racing stopped in Europe in 1939 because
of the war but Indy raced on in 1940 and 1941. After the United
States entered into the war Indy waited for the conflict to end.
After the war, Eddie Rickenbacker didn't have the finances to
bring Indy back to life so Tony Hulman came along to save IMS.
The 128 pages are filled with photos of cars from the 1940s.
See Maserati, Alfa Romero, Novis, Mercedes-Benz, Fageol's two-engine
four-wheel car and a six-wheel car ran. The beautiful Blue Crown
Specials ruled the Speedway in the late 1940s.
